Exotic Fruits & Veggies

I was a vegetarian for 15 years before becoming a vegan for the last 3 years. There is truly only one vegetable that I do not like (celery) and I think of myself as rather in the know when it comes to plant based foods. (One of my favorite veggies, after all, is taro root- one of the more obscure tubers out there…) Well, I was wrong. Today, (back at the Indian supermarket) I got a chance to meander around the produce aisle. This market is on the smaller side and the produce section was really only one small aisle of wooden bins with some of the usual suspects, bananas (they even had the tiny baby bananas! eee!) okra, potatoes, etc. Then there were the lesser found items, but I still knew what they were, aloe leaves. Lastly, there were about 5-6 items that I had never seen before! They were so interesting and different from the usual grocery store that I had to snap some pictures so I could look them up later when I got home.

This got me thinking about so many other exotic fruits and veggies in other cuisines out there. While poking around, I found this article on 50 exotic fruits/veggies you’ve never heard of. I went through all of them and scored 22/50. I’m not sure if that is a good score or not… How would you do? If you challenge yourself, share in the comments with me how many you knew!

Here are some of my favorites that I came across that I didn’t know before, but would love to taste!
